Aethos Ericeira

The room leak was a real disappointment. Water poured through the ceiling in a steady stream, almost like a shower from above. Since we were only there for one night, that room was our whole stay, and there was no chance to make things right the next day. We understand maintenance problems can happen, but no refund or any other compensation was offered. That was especially frustrating because Aetheos Ericeira impressed us in so many other ways. The facilities were beautifully designed and well kept, especially for this price range. Breakfast was fresh, varied, and thoughtfully served, and the staff were warm and attentive. How a hotel responds when a problem comes up matters as much as the facilities.

I booked a Pilates class and wound up being the teacher’s only student, which was amazing. I’m still sore two days later! The bartenders Hugo and Leanor were a highlight, and breakfast was great too. Everyone on staff was kind, attentive, and eager to help from the minute we arrived. They really made me feel like a queen. The amenities are lovely, but I’d definitely recommend having a car, otherwise you might feel stranded. Thanks, Aethos, for such a great weekend!

The breakfast was one of the best parts: à la carte, with some buffet choices too, lots of variety, and good quality, including some original options. I was also pleasantly surprised by the staff. They’re a young team, friendly and helpful, and struck a nice balance between relaxed and attentive. Their activity suggestions for the area were excellent. The setting is as impressive as the photos suggest, and the rooms, amenities, and facilities fit a five-star hotel. It isn’t cheap, though. This season may be a good time to visit because it avoids the crowds, and service may be better with fewer guests. I’d recommend it for a special occasion or anytime the price works for you. I’ve stayed at the hotel many times and always had a good experience, but this is just about the spa. My recent €120 facial wasn’t relaxing. For an hour, cold products were applied and wiped off repeatedly with very cold hands, towels, and wipes. There was almost no warm water, steam, or warm towels, and the face massage was very brief. In my experience, facials usually have some soothing warmth, and this treatment didn’t. I gave my feedback privately and was told the cold treatment was “intentional” because my skin reacted to the cleanser at the start. That surprised me, since nobody mentioned a reaction during the facial. If there had been one, I’d have expected to be told right away, asked whether I wanted to continue, and given an explanation about not using warm water, steam, or warm towels. The response felt dismissive and bizarre, and missed my point, which was the comfort and relaxation of the treatment. Sharing this so others know what to expect.
