The service doesn’t matter much. The location is okay, but almost everything else is embarrassing, to put it mildly. Breakfast is modest, and requests to serve it half an hour earlier go ignored. The rooms are really “retro” and don’t meet today’s standards. We’re not picky, but the cleaning is poor and doesn’t meet 21st-century standards either. Finding hairs from previous guests in the shower is miserable.

Great views of Mt Pico in the morning from some rooms, which was a nice surprise. The rooms are simple, clean, and nice, and the staff are friendly and conscientious. There are refreshments downstairs around the clock, and breakfast is decent. Just right if you’re busy and out most of the day.

We really enjoyed our stay. The owners were lovely and gave us plenty of restaurant recommendations for Horta.
