Ericeira Paradise House & Suites

Our room was clean and had a beautiful private balcony, and the hostel lends out surfboards and wetsuits for the beach just a 5-minute walk away. My husband and I had a great, relaxed stay and felt very comfortable in the homey place. Our flight was delayed, so we arrived late for check-in, but the volunteers gave us a warm welcome and were very accommodating throughout. They were always there when we had questions. We loved it and will come back on our next visit to Ericeira.

The location is a real plus: the historic center is a quick walk away, the beach is across the road, and the house sits in a gated complex with a great coworking space and tennis club. But the listing on every website is misleading. The house is shared not only with paying guests but also with three people who manage it, and almost every day we saw different people coming and going who were friends of the staff. It felt more like staying in a young women's dorm than a small hostel. The downstairs bathroom was very poor, and the upstairs beds squeaked so badly that even breathing made a loud noise. Reviews about the poor beds go back to 2022, so it seems the owner hasn't done anything about them.

I stayed here in September 2020 in a double room with a shared bathroom on the first floor. The house is big and pleasant, with a large, comfortable shared living room and a well-equipped kitchen. It's very close to the beach and a 5-10 minute walk from the center. The upstairs bedroom has a nice balcony and comfortable beds, but the WiFi doesn't reach the room and there are no bedside lamps. The owners also need to improve their communication and show more appreciation for their customers.

The only surprise was that the larger, newer shared bathroom is used by more rooms than just the two on the first floor. The owner had told me only those two rooms shared it, but that wasn't actually the case. Apart from that, I had a wonderful time at Paradise. The house faces soothing matadouro beach and is a 15-minute walk from the center, with a well-equipped kitchen. The girls who look after the place kept it clean, answered all my questions and needs, and made it feel like home from the moment I arrived. Thank you Lena, Elise, Amalie and Jojo for a great stay.
