The sunsets and views are incredible, the garden is well kept, and the pool was clean. We were able to enjoy ourselves with close friends, and coordination and communication were plentiful. The property and location are fantastic, but as a short-stay rental it missed even basic expectations. For such a large place in a privileged location, I expected a more refined interior. The architecture feels as though it was done without a plan, and the inside needs to be stripped out and redone. The kitchen is a mess, built at no standard height and not set up for any particular length of stay. The materials and workmanship are poor, without simple design or beauty. The bedrooms feel gloomy and depressing, and the furniture throughout, including the ghastly TV wall, has no logic or sense of style. The top-floor terrace is partly tiled and covered with cheap, broken furniture. The fridge was switched off and took all night to cool down. There's too much cheap junk for a place that could be so much better. We enjoyed the company of our friends, but staying longer than one night might be torture because basic standards for a premium short-stay aren't met.

The housekeeper was lovely, and the house was absolutely spotless. There are three bedrooms, each with an en-suite, spaced far enough apart to give everyone privacy. We stayed for two nights as a family of five adults, a 3 year old, and a 1 year old. The grounds are huge and there are no nearby neighbours, so the children could run on the grass without disturbing anyone. The kitchen is spacious and we cooked meals there, and also used the outdoor grill. It was too cold for swimming, but sitting by the pool with that magnificent view of the Duoro river was wonderful. Highly recommended, especially for two families travelling together with kids.

We only booked 2 nights at the quinta as a base for a business meeting nearby, but kept extending our stay because we didn't want the experience to end. The view was the main thing for us, bringing a sense of space and calm that's hard to find when you're indoors on a rainy weekend. The fireplace was another highlight, with the warmth and atmosphere of a live fire, plus chopping the wood, adding so much to the stay. The house is spacious and bright, with a huge garden where you can walk or swing, or even hold a wedding. The dining room and kitchen are fully equipped, and we had wonderful meals with a great view. If you're lucky, you might spot orange trees nearby for breakfast juice. Marcus was a very professional and caring host. Manuela, who takes care of the keys and cleaning, was lovely and shared details about how people live in this region. A five-star experience for the mind and soul. Enjoy!
