MyRoom Lisboa

A good option if you want more privacy than a dorm. The rooms have character, and there are pleasant shared areas in the kitchen and on the terrace. It’s close to Baixa Chiado and Barrio Alto. The old Lisbon building carries sound around, so light sleepers should bring earplugs.

For the price, this was very good value, and I liked staying here on my last visit to Lisboa. The rooms were cozy and really clean, and the location was great. The walls are thin enough that you hear every sound, though. I also had a small check-in hassle because the manager didn’t hear me ring, so I waited until someone came out and opened the door.

I paid in cash at the property, after they’d asked for my card online to hold the room. That seemed normal for a small hotel, but two weeks later they charged the card too. When I first raised it, they said they’d call back, and since then they’ve ignored my calls and messages. I’ve been charged twice for accommodation that was below par. Scam.

The building is very old, but the location is great and the price was good. Three bathrooms for eight rooms. It was what I was looking for.
