Aldeia da Cuada

Our last night of our honeymoon in the Azores was completely spoiled. We arrived to find no parking at all and had to call so they could move a staff car to make room. Then we found a huge crowd at the pool, swimming and barbecuing. They weren’t guests of the village, and nobody had warned us this would happen. The first night had been lovely: the outdoor heated pool was there as advertised, and it felt magical. We were meant to stay three nights, but our flight was cancelled and moved to the next day, so we only stayed two. When we raised the pool crowd with the staff, we got nowhere. They said the complaint would be passed to the manager, who they said wasn’t available to talk to me. I later saw a Google post about someone being told at 8:00 AM on the same day that a movie would be filmed near their villa and that they should avoid nearby areas. Maybe things like this aren’t unusual here after all. Such a big disappointment.

The property is really cute and well located. I ate at its restaurant every day during my trip and had a little walk around the grounds too. I’d definitely stay here when I’m back in Flores.

The breakfast buffet was excellent, and the staff were attentive and very friendly. My house was clean and authentic, set among nature, with thoughtful furnishings. Each house has its own character, and it’s a wonderful place to stay.

The cottages were comfortable and the restaurant food was great. The staff were friendly and helpful too. Absolutely wonderful place to stay, and I can’t recommend it enough.
