The view across the bay of Faro was fantastic, and I loved taking photos at sunrise and sunset. The property has such a distinctive feel, and we were very comfortable during our three weeks at Casa da Aldeia in December and January. We enjoyed the varied conversations with our hosts and their excursion suggestions, and would happily return. Thank you, Monique and Alex! We’d wondered if the flat might be cold in winter, but the wood stove quickly put that concern to rest. We loved sitting by it in the evenings, and Alex always lit it ahead of time so we could arrive to a warm apartment. The flat had everything needed for meals, though we especially liked having breakfast while looking out over the garden. The bed was comfortable, and we liked the mosquito net.

The pool was lovely, and we fell for the rooftop terrace and its evening views. Mornings on our little patio were a pleasure, afternoons were warm and quiet by the pool, and the evenings felt enchanting. Santa Barbara de Nexe is a quiet hilltop village, with lovely nearby paths for an evening walk after dinner. There’s a supermarket, gas station, and a couple of nice restaurants close by if you don’t want to go into town. My daughter and I chose this house on Airbnb because it looked authentic. We wanted somewhere beautiful that would remind us we were on holiday in Portugal, not an IKEA apartment by the beach. It was my first time in the Algarve, and we knew little about the area or distances. The house turned out even better than the pictures: small, super clean, and decorated so beautifully, with lots of white and some blue. I loved the bedroom, bathroom, living room, kitchen, and patio. It felt romantic, and I’d recommend it to couples too. Monique did a wonderful job with the decor, while Lex was the welcoming, friendly, very helpful person to turn to whenever we needed something. We were pleasantly surprised when they cleaned the house before the end of our first week. It’s about 15 minutes from the airport and 30 minutes from the beach, so a rental car is needed to see the surroundings. I felt a bit lost at first, but Lex gave us lots of useful tips. One word: awesome! Thank you, Lex and Monique, for making our first Algarve stay feel magical 😊

We had a fantastic breakfast, which we booked separately, and Alex gave us lots of useful tips that we made good use of. Casa da Aldeia is a lovely place to stay, with a stunning view and a nice outdoor area. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
