Guest House do Largo

The only reason I'm giving it four stars is that I found it a bit expensive. It's a nice youth hostel downtown, with friendly people and great decorations. The bathrooms are easy to get to, and the kitchen has lots of useful things for cooking and making breakfast. Staff do their best to make you comfortable and can book a taxi for you. Cheers.

We had to call when we arrived because there's no reception, and then waited about 20 minutes for someone to come check us in. Let them know when you're coming so they can meet you. The rooms are really big, with a ridiculously large bathroom, and there’s a pleasant patio at the back plus a big rooftop terrace. The kitchen is spacious, and you can have your own fridge shelf if you want one. Breakfast was simple but fresh and tasty, with bread, ham, cheese, jam and cereal. On our last day we checked out before breakfast, so they prepared some for us ahead of time.

I had to leave in the middle of the night after just one night in the side building. I saw bugs under the beds, on the walls and in the doorframe. I've travelled a lot and never seen anything like it. I was bitten all over, and the insects in my photos look like bedbugs to me, not woodbugs as they claimed. I had to pay for another hotel and laundry to clean everything, over 100 € altogether. In the morning I went back to complain. The employee was very nice and tried to reach the managers, but they only messaged her. Neither called nor came in. They refunded me 30 € for the night, but nothing more. I thought they should have covered at least half of my extra costs for cleaning and the new hotel. If you want a relaxing holiday, don't go there.

The rooftop terrace was a great bonus, and the host was really nice and helpful. The place feels brand new, and the bathrooms were very clean. The kitchen is extremely well equipped, and breakfast was one of the best I've seen in a hostel: fresh orange juice, coffee, fruit, fresh bread and toast, muesli, yogurt, cheese, ham, jam, honey and sweet pastries. The dorm rooms could still use some improvements, like power sockets and separate lights, but they had what we needed, and the host provided AC. Free lockers, too. I'd come back.
