Faroway Hostel

The host was approachable and very nice, and being right in the heart of the city is a real advantage. The decor feels authentic and has a lot of character. Still, the bathrooms and roof terrace need attention, and the place has more potential than it currently shows. Cleanliness could be better too. It was a nice experience overall.

I came down with the flu while I was in Faro, so I spent the night tucked away at the hostel and can't really say what the city is like or how the hostel relates to it. There was no heating, so it wasn't exactly an incubator, but we had more than enough blankets.

The main drawback was having no hot water during the four days we stayed. The weather was warm, so a cool rinse was bearable, but cold showers weren't great. The location is central and close to bars and restaurants. The rooms are basic, as you'd expect in a hostel, but okay.

This place is a lovely, artistic old Portuguese house, with beautiful clean rooms and a well-equipped kitchen. There are even a few things to buy in the kitchen, which is a really nice idea. I loved the rooftop, and sitting there gave me a real Portuguese atmosphere. It’s right in the heart of Faro, yet inside there’s still plenty of peace. The volunteers are kind and helpful, and the owner replies to WhatsApp messages right away and is available until midnight. There’s no reception, so you send a photo of your ID through WhatsApp to check in and get the door codes. I don’t understand all the bad comments. I recommend it and would love to come back.
