Cova da Iria

We were travelling north to south, and this hotel was easy to find and well located for our trip. The room and bed were superb, and breakfast was one of the best I've had at a hotel. Lovely place and excellent value.

After an uncomfortable stay at Luz Charming Houses, where we didn't feel welcome and went looking for somewhere else, Dom Concalo was a much better fit for us. Our child LOVED the kids club, the staff were kinder and welcomed questions with smiles instead of dismissive looks, and the pool setup was gorgeous. You can choose just one hour a day, but it includes spa features such as a sauna, Turkish bath, and more. The breakfast and food were EXCELLENT, including a Michelin star, and the location was MUCH better. We paid about a third of what Luz cost. Don't make our mistake, save your money and have a far more peaceful experience at Dom!

The pool was tiny, and the gym was about the size of an ordinary garage with very little equipment. For a hotel at this price, I expected better facilities. I stayed three nights with my family, including two small children, hoping for a relaxing trip. Instead, the front desk staff were abrupt and unwelcoming. I rarely complain, but I eventually asked one staff member to change her tone and apologize. The poor service and atmosphere took away from our trip, and I wouldn't recommend staying here. I'd suggest avoiding it if possible.

The location is amazing, especially if you want to visit the centre of the country too. The rooms were comfortable and clean, and breakfast was good. I just wish there had been a few more vegan or vegetarian choices. The staff were 5 stars and made our stay really pleasant.
