Hotel Sao Jose

The outside of the hotel looks lovely, and it's about a 10-minute walk to the fatima Basilica. Service and food were both good. I liked being able to rent a bike at reception and sit outside. The hotel feels a bit old, though. Sometimes the key card won't open the room door on the first try, and the elevator makes a strange sound that can scare people, even though it's safe. I loved the hotel.

I stayed three nights with a group and liked everything about the place. The rooms were spacious, with good heating and a great hot shower, which we appreciated in the cold, damp weather. The staff were friendly and polite, and we ate at the hotel, where there was plenty of choice for both breakfast and dinner. The main basilica is a 10-minute walk away, and the shops selling Fatima devotional items are about five minutes away.

Breakfast was the highlight, with a full continental spread of bacon, sausage, salami, eggs, fresh juice, hot chocolate, and tea. The room was big and very clean, with a fridge, working air conditioning, and hot water. Reception staff were kind and even gave us an extension, then kept our luggage until it was time for our bus. The hotel is right by the Fatima bus station and only a few minutes' walk from the Basilica, so it's centrally located. The best hotel of my October 23 trips. I'd recommend it.

Clean, roomy, and in a great spot. It was easy to find my way around the area.
