Casa Branca IV, a stunning view

The sea-facing balcony and fairly new furniture made apartment 806 a good deal. It also had a bidet. Kitchen supplies were the weak spot: just two very worn skillets, and mismatched quantities of glasses, plates, and knives. Check-in and checkout were quick and simple. We could use the building parking, and although spaces weren't assigned, we always found one whenever we needed it.

The hilltop setting may be tricky for older people, but it worked well for us. The apartment was roomy, had a sea view, and was good value. Casa Branca has plenty of restaurants, bars, and supermarkets, with Praia Formosa nearby; several bus stops are close too, and the ride into the center takes about 10-15 minutes. The owners were friendly and easy to reach. There's no room service, so you handle towel changes, cleaning, and rubbish yourself. We didn't mind, since there was a washing machine and plenty of other equipment.

The apartment is spacious, the location is excellent, and having free parking was handy. Still, I wouldn't choose it again. The furniture is very old, and I've never had a bed that was so noisy. We booked a cheaper room and got one on the second floor, where the view was of cockroaches instead of the fascinating scenery. With no soundproofing, you can hear the neighbors clearly, so they can really affect your stay. It's not terrible value, but the bed and cockroaches were major downsides.

From the ninth floor, the views across town and out to sea are incredible. There are two balconies, one for sunrise and one for sunset, plus access to a large private pool that's nice for cooling off in the evening. The apartment has what you need for a week, including a Dolce coffee machine, fridge, washing machine, and hob.
