This is a really nice hostel, with friendly staff and owner, clean rooms, a good kitchen and nice bathrooms. I’d recommend having a car. You need one to properly explore Madeira, and there’s space to park by the road. My favourite spot was the outdoor area, where you can sit and hang out among the banana trees with a sea view. There are a couple of sun loungers too. On a sunny day, the sun reaches the area for most of the day, making it a lovely place for breakfast or lunch.

The room never really got quiet, with late-night talking and music making it hard to sleep. Hallway light also came through the window in the door, and the whole place felt tense and not very clean. I spent three nights there, and check-in alone took nearly half an hour before anyone showed up. The bunks creaked and wobbled, and the mattresses were so thin I barely slept. Bathrooms often had no toilet paper, and there was no soap. The owner was cold and didn't make an effort to help. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

I never managed to stay there. Getting a reply took days, and the owner was ruthless. I wouldn't recommend it.

Ana made our stay great. The place was clean and ready when we arrived, and with a car, the location works well, everything is about five minutes from the centre.
