Pestana CR7 Funchal Lifestyle Hotels

Our little one is a huge Cristiano Ronaldo fan, so we came to Pestana CR7 for his birthday. The staff made him feel so welcome, with souvenirs, a card from the hotel, and even a room upgrade as an extra surprise. Everyone was helpful and friendly, the food was delicious, and everything was spotlessly clean. We really recommend staying here!

We loved the atmosphere and comfort at Pestana CR7 Funchal, and would gladly stay again. The rooftop pool and bar, with its harbor views, was a lovely spot to unwind after being out. The hotel has a modern look and a playful Cristiano Ronaldo theme that football fans will enjoy. It’s right on the harbor, with an easy, flat walk to the old town, shops, restaurants, and main sights, so we didn’t need to worry about hills or transport. Breakfast had lots of fresh choices, and the staff were friendly, professional, and helpful throughout. It’s lively and central, which is part of the appeal.

The biggest issue for us was noise, though it depends on the room. Even-numbered rooms face a main road into and out of Funchal. Some guests mention noise from the casino uphill, but I suspect it may not be as bad as it sounds. Odd-numbered rooms look over the harbor, where there’s something to watch, but rooms from 125 onward sit above a busy restaurant bar that isn’t part of the hotel. It stays noisy until late, and on weekends, apparently into the early hours, with loud conversations over the music and children running and shouting. Great for them, less so if you’re trying to sleep. Rooms 101 to 125 should be better. The hotel can’t control that restaurant, of course. We stayed seven nights. The breakfast buffet has an excellent selection, plus made-to-order food, and the omelettes were great. Staff were welcoming and friendly, the pool deck has lovely views of town and the harbor, and it’s an easy, pleasant 15-minute walk to town and good restaurants. Parking in the underground garage was straightforward, but hotel guests get no discount, so it costs 15 euros a day. There were service lapses too. The safe batteries needed replacing, but three days after we reported it, it still didn’t work. Our booking included a bottle of wine, which never arrived. At other hotels we’ve stayed at, it’s usually in the room on the first night. We had to ask five times, and eventually it became a matter of principle. With these gaps, it doesn’t quite feel like a true four-star hotel.

The hotel has a cool design, and my 13-year-old son loved all the football and Ronaldo memorabilia. The staff were outstanding, very professional, friendly, and accommodating. We also enjoyed the rooftop pool and sauna. The gym was odd: it’s an outdoor rooftop space that feels more for show than for anyone wanting a proper workout. That seems strange given how much CR represents physical fitness. Breakfast also starts at 8 am, which felt late for an island where people come to hike, bike, surf, and dive. Neither issue was a major problem for me.
