We found several good restaurants within a 10-minute walk, and Forum Madeira shopping mall was about a 19-minute walk in the other direction. A Spar shop was even closer, around five minutes away. The hotel is right by the seafront and less than a 10-minute drive from central Funchal. There’s also a car park downstairs, which can be booked ahead for €13 per night. The staff were welcoming and did their best to make the stay enjoyable. Everything throughout the hotel was clean and tidy. Our room was large, with a modern bathroom and big pillows. We had complimentary drinks in the fridge, then a fruit bowl delivered on the second day. Breakfast was leisurely, with plenty of cooked options, eggs and omelettes made to order, waffles, pancakes, cereal, fruit, and a bean-to-cup coffee machine. The pool areas were quiet, with plenty of space and sunbeds, and the pool bar was open from 10am to 6pm. There’s also an indoor pool, a huge jacuzzi, a gym with well-maintained equipment, and a games room.

The buffet breakfast had a fresh range of options, and we could eat outside with lovely sea views. The only small downside in our room was hearing furniture being moved upstairs now and then, though we know that can be hard to avoid. The pool surrounded by plants made for a peaceful place to relax, and the hotel has gorgeous views over the sea. We enjoyed walking along the promenade, and the town centre is about 40 minutes away on foot. The staff were kind and welcoming throughout our stay. Delilah was especially helpful, sharing some excellent ideas for things to do nearby. We had a great stay at Pestana Promenade Hotel and would gladly return.

The location worked well for us. Central Funchal is walkable if you’re happy to cover the distance, and plenty of buses pass the hotel and stop nearby. We stayed for eleven nights and really enjoyed it. Reception staff were lovely and handled everything efficiently. The pool gardens are quiet and beautifully landscaped, and there’s a very nice heated indoor pool too. We ate at the restaurant once and thoroughly enjoyed the meal.

The outdated rooms were the biggest drawback, with many appearing to be timeshares that haven’t been updated. The showers were often cold or only lukewarm, and the happy hour drink prices weren’t clear, so I’d avoid it. The hotel was spotlessly clean, and both pools, indoor and outdoor, were very clean too. Reception staff were helpful and went out of their way for us. We found the pillows really comfortable. Breakfast had plenty of choices, including gluten-free options, and the location gave easy access to Funchal and the airport, with glorious sea views.

The people working at the resort made the holiday memorable. Everyone we met was so welcoming. The breakfast buffet had a great variety, and I looked forward to seeing what style of dinner buffet there would be each night. The resort itself is stunning, with lovely sea views. We had a wonderful time and will be back 🤍
