PortoBay Santa Maria, Adults Only

Third visit, and another amazing holiday. We didn't get our usual room, but the alternative turned out to be even better. The location is fantastic, with spectacular sea and promenade views. Shops, bars and places to visit in the old town are right on the doorstep and within walking distance. Our room was spotless and cleaned daily, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We booked bed and breakfast, then used the discount for evening meals five times.

We felt welcome throughout, thanks to the friendly, helpful and professional staff. Special thanks to housekeeping, who worked hard, were thorough and cheerful. They cleaned the air conditioning filter one day, then all the riser cupboards the next. The Santa Maria is right on the seafront, with lovely views of the beach, harbour and town, especially from the rooftop terrace. Being at the edge of the old town meant we could walk to anywhere in central Funchal. The hotel was quiet and comfortable, and the food was very good. My wife and I really enjoyed our stay and expect to come back.

The food was delicious, and the staff were so friendly that it felt like they really cared. We had a good sea view from our room, and the hotel was quiet in a wonderful spot at the edge of the old town. We'd love to return.

We just got back from our fourth stay at Porto bay Santa Maria, and we'd happily return again and again. Its location is perfect, within easy walking distance of the old town and plenty of restaurants and bars. The hotel bar has just about everything, except Guinness. My husband was disappointed since it used to be available, but we picked some up at the local supermarket and kept it in the fridge, problem solved. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and spotless, and the staff were welcoming and helpful. The food was delicious. The Christmas decorations in the foyer and gardens were beautiful, and the swimming pool and jacuzzi were comfortable and spotless too. We love the hotel and recommend it.
