Reid's Palace, A Belmond Hotel, Madeira

The service was fantastic throughout, and the food was delicious with great flavours. They took allergies into account especially well. The chicken truffle mousse croissant was heavenly, though the bread filled with red cabbage and onion wasn't really for me. We had afternoon tea at Reid’s Hotel in Funchal, sitting on a terrace with beautiful views over the harbour and city. The hotel has a lovely old-world charm and understated glamour, and the sunny afternoon felt memorable. The wind picked up near the end and made it a little chilly, but didn't spoil the experience.

I went to a wedding at Reid’s Palace, and I'm quite sure it was unforgettable. The ocean views, flowering gardens and class of the place all fit together beautifully. Service was top-notch, from the waiters to reception staff. We didn't stay overnight, so I can't speak to the rooms, but I can only imagine waking up to that view.🌺❤️🌴

The gardens have a quiet enchantment, and direct access to the sea feels truly unique. Reid’s Palace has real character and a timeless atmosphere, made even better by staff who are warm, attentive and genuinely caring. My one reservation is the value for money: the setting and service support a premium price, but the lunch quality didn't quite meet my expectations for a hotel at this level. Still, it's a wonderful retreat that leaves you with lasting memories.

Weekdays were especially good, since the falconer was on site to keep pigeons away. I loved being able to jump into the sea from the lower pool level, and the pool team provided fantastic service. At the front desk, Jason promptly made sure our every wish was met. The service throughout was exceptional. We spent 8 nights here, though it felt too short, and this is by far the best hotel I've ever stayed in. It's made me a lifelong Belmond fan. We'll visit again as soon as we can, and try other Belmond properties too.
