Suntrap Hostel

I’d gone in with really high expectations, so it was a shame to end up in a downstairs room that wasn’t what I’d imagined. It was basically in a basement, without windows and with very poor ventilation.

The Manager Edson was a great guy, always helpful and willing to go above and beyond to make the stay run smoothly. The atmosphere was friendly, with the other in-mates being considerate of each other’s boundaries. The hostel was clean, with a well-equipped kitchen and a lovely terrace. It’s quite central too, a few steps from the tourists office, between the old town and marina, and near the main coach and buses station.

The dorm view was stunning, and I liked having the whole floor to myself at this time of year, though that’s just my preference. The building is old, but it’s kept clean and well maintained. The beds were comfortable and the showers had a good flow. Edson is laid-back and witty, and happy to help whenever you ask.

We had the four-bed female dorm and met two awesome sisters from Jordan, and the hostel was an okay place to hang out and meet people in the heart of town for a few nights. But I wouldn’t choose this hostel again, though I’d stay in the area. The room needs proper sweeping and cleaning, beyond changing the bed when someone checks in. We saw a cockroach. Most of the staff were lovely, with one exception. The dorm faced the terrace, so it wasn’t quiet at night, and the common room right beside it was a nightmare. I know the hostel can’t control who stays, but some thoughtful rules might help.
