Residenza Dutzu Apart Hotel

Right in the heart of Leiria, surrounded by shops and restaurants and close to the main Church and the Castle. The studio is fully refurbished, clean, and comfortable, with good beds and pillows. It has an equipped kitchen and bathroom, plus all the amenities you need.

Residentza Dutzu is in a central part of Leiria’s old town, near the castle, shops, and cathedral, with a convenient self-service laundry next door. The proprietor, Cecilia, also runs a gift shop below the apartments and is available daily. The bedroom had a large, comfortable bed, and the bathroom was small but modern. But the toilet cistern stopped working on our first morning. We told Cecilia, who said it was fine and that we’d pressed the buttons incorrectly. It failed again the next morning, so there seems to be a problem that hopefully will be fixed for future guests. The towel rail also wasn’t secured properly and came off the wall, and some bath towels were so worn that we could see our hands through them. Cecilia showed us the number combination locks for the street and apartment doors. She stressed that they had to be used in a particular way, turning clockwise or anticlockwise by no more than half a turn, and asked us to try in front of her. She said she’d need to come and reprogramme them if we didn’t follow her instructions. We found it confusing and felt nervous using the locks, which affected our stay. She said the apartment was damp because we’re in Portugal and told us to keep the windows open for at least 30 minutes a day. That wasn’t an issue for us, though we suspect the damp may come from the laundry below. Our clothes felt cold and damp each morning. We value comfortable chairs in the evening, but there were only four hard, folding wooden chairs. There was a terrace too, but it could only be reached by climbing wooden stairs and crawling out of a small window. We’re a couple in our late sixties and didn’t try it, as it takes good mobility. The terrace table and chairs hadn’t been cleaned, and humid, steamy air from the laundry extractor fans blew across it. Soundproofing was poor, and we could hear people talking and ‘getting friendly’ upstairs. The Wi-Fi was good, but the TV was missing lots of channels.

Residenza Dutzu is right in the heart of Leiria, near Praca Rodrgues Lobo. The place is modern and very clean. Cecilia is cheerful and lovely, ready to help at any time, and speaks impeccable English. I recommend it!

The apartment is well equipped, with comfortable beds and a very nice bathroom. Its location in Leiria’s historic centre is excellent, with plenty of good cafés, restaurants, and markets nearby. Cecília gave us a very attentive welcome.
