The rooms felt really dated, and the door slamming started waking us from 7:30 in the morning. We spent two nights here. There are two basic pools and air conditioning in the rooms. For a short, budget stay it’s manageable. We caught a bus from the hotel to Lisbon, which took about 40 minutes.

The room floor was dirty, and the replacement sheets felt itchy to sleep on. The shower head wouldn’t stay in place, and the TV wasn’t working, but nobody had an answer about it. There were no USB ports in the room either. When I called the help desk, they hung up and didn’t respond; when I went downstairs, the staff were just chatting. The front desk staff, both men and women, came across as arrogant and unwilling to help. An early check-in wasn’t possible. I’m posting this after only eight hours of my stay because of how bad the front desk experience has been.

The staff were lovely, easily the best part of the hotel. The rooms, though, were dated, dirty, and poorly equipped. The so-called balcony had no chair, and it looked out over a car park and a busy road, so I wouldn’t have wanted to sit there anyway. I’ve stayed in cleaner, nicer three-star hotels in Portugal for less. How does this place justify four stars? Absolute rubbish.

The breakfast was lovely, and the location was good. Staff were friendly and helpful, and I found the rooms decent and comfortable. I’m not sure why people complain about smells and dirt, especially since this isn’t a five-star hotel or priced like one. The indoor pool was okay, though the weather was too dull for us to use the outdoor one. No kettle in the room, which wasn’t good.

The staff were nice and helpful, but the smell in the rooms was terrible, a damp smell they tried to cover up with air freshener. It didn’t work. Even with the windows open while I slept, I woke up with that awful smell in my nostrils. I’m glad we only stayed one night. I’ll be making a complaint to the travel agency that brought us here.
