We only stayed one night before our flight to Porto. The front desk staff were courteous and well mannered, and they gave us the details we needed. We booked suites 508 and 509 on the fifth floor, reached by elevator, both with skylights. We checked for bugs and dirt and were happy with what we found: no sign of bed bugs, bodily stains, or hair in either room. The towels, sheets, shower, curtain, toilet, and sink were clean, and the floors were fairly clean without feeling sticky. It was relatively quiet outside while we slept, even though the street gets some road and foot traffic. There’s a church-run community kitchen across the street serving people in need. The people going there kept to themselves and were quiet.
The prices are very good and the location is great. The rooms are solid, but sound travels easily through the walls from neighbors, and you can hear the city through the windows too. If noise wakes you up easily, this probably isn’t the place for you.
The noise made it very hard to rest. I could hear neighbors talking and even shouting through closed doors, along with police sirens and trains outside. Sound insulation between rooms and from the street is very poor, so bring earplugs if you stay here and want to sleep. I was also surprised by how tiny the room was. The listing didn’t give its area, and this was the smallest room I’ve ever stayed in. At check-in, staff asked me to write my credit card number and expiry date on paper as a deposit. That’s a serious privacy and security concern and shouldn’t be allowed. On top of that, I booked through booking.com and received phishing messages in its inbox, so it looks like their system may have been hacked.
Just beside a metro station, so the location is very convenient. The rooms are spacious and have all the necessary utilities.
The apartment is about a 20-minute walk from the main square. Our room was on street level, and we could hear traffic all night. There were three adults sharing a small, cramped room. Apparently it was the only three-bed room available, and I wish we’d known that sooner because we couldn’t switch.
