The room had a small balcony that helped air it out, and the toilet and shower were clean. But the place felt like a slum: cramped, with a mouldy smell so bad I slept on top of the bed. The shared stairwell was run-down. I saw men urinating in the street three times and was approached about buying marijuana twice. I think one approach may have been a setup for a robbery. There was graffiti everywhere. I didn't see needles or street prostitution, and there were no women around. Eating locally, I saw hundreds of men but no women or children. It's a strikingly male-only area, unlike anywhere I've been.

The room was hot and noisy, with a lingering sewage smell from the bathroom drain that filled the space whenever the door opened. There was no way to air it out. The room and kitchen had no windows, something the Booking listing didn't disclose; its photos showed a different room with a window. The bathroom, sink, and so-called double bed were all tiny, and the sink was barely usable for washing hands. It felt like sleeping in Harry Potter's cupboard under the stairs at the Dursleys. One of the worst places I've stayed.

The listing photos weren't what we found, and nowhere did it say the room had no window. We had to leave the air conditioning on all night just to breathe. The bathroom was tiny and mouldy. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

The rooms were very clean, and the staff were attentive. The location is central, though I wouldn't suggest it for women traveling alone.

The five stars are for the main guy at reception and the cleaning lady. Both were really friendly and helpful.
