Brothers Hostel

I’ve spent six months in Australia, New Zealand, and Thailand, and stayed everywhere from cheap hostels to pricier luxury hotels. Brothers Hostel was a very bad experience. The service was poor, and the staff and reception wouldn’t refund us after we accidentally booked one extra day. They kept the money, which was really unfortunate. The accommodation was also noisy and wasn’t clean when we arrived. There are much better value hostels nearby, so I can only advise against this one.

NOTE: this isn’t the hostel’s correct address. It’s Rua dos Baldaques number 48, ALAMEDA, 1900-085 Lisboa. The room was clean and the hostel was quiet, but after two nights I was glad to leave. All the rules made it feel stifling. They don’t provide towels, even when you ask. The supposed kitchen had only a microwave, no cutlery, dishes, cooking equipment, or kettle. Signs in the rooms say not to eat or drink anything there. I’ve visited 100 countries and travel for pleasure at least six months a year, and I’ve never seen a hostel rule like that. I left disappointed.

The room was very small for five dorm beds, when it should have had three at most. There was hardly any walking space, and the fan didn’t work. No AC either, so the heat and overcrowding made it hard to sleep.

I ended up canceling because a family of at least five was staying in the room next to mine. There was constant traffic in and out, loud music, shouting, and people trying to get into my room. The receptionist tried to help but had no alternative to offer. I stayed at the 'Good Night Hostel' instead and only got part of my money back after negotiating.
