Downtown, Lisbon Apartment

We stayed for two nights and paid over 300 euros, which felt far too expensive for what we got. The rooms were small and unsanitary, with dirt, dust mites in the sheets, mold on the walls, a broken shower, and mattresses that looked 50 years old. One window opened onto a wall just 20 cm away. We were bitten and brought bed bugs home. This was the worst guesthouse I've ever stayed in. Avoid it at all costs.

The staff deserve credit for being so kind and helpful. This is a simple but really nice little guest house, with a small shared kitchen. It's on a side street off the main road, so there's less noise. There are stairs only, no lift, and no AC, though Lisbon's Mediterranean weather usually makes AC unnecessary.

Good restaurants, cafés, and shops are nearby, and the guest house has a rooftop terrace and kitchen. It's a good, inexpensive place to sleep compared with other hotels around Lisboa-Rossio, in a nice spot next to the train station. I enjoyed my stay. Most areas were clean, though the bathroom had a little dirt. We had only enough towels for the people in our room, and I would've liked a small hand towel. There's no elevator, just stairs, so heavy luggage can be a problem. The friendly staff helped carry our bags upstairs.

The room was cheap, and the host was friendly. There was no AC, so it got a little warm, but they gave us a fan and it was fine for the price. After checking out, they let us leave our bags while we explored for the day and locked them up to help prevent theft.
