Emporium Lisbon Suites

The only tricky part was parking. The nearby garage was a short walk away and cost 25 Euro per day. We really enjoyed the accommodations, though. The room was spacious, clean and modern, with an elevator in the building and a mini split for both heat and AC. The location is unbeatable, right on the waterfront and close to everything, with loads of restaurants nearby.

We got the door code two days before arriving, and it worked well. The room was cleaned every two days. There's an office on the 1st floor where an employee can help if anything comes up. The room was comfortable, with a kitchen, and it's in the city center while still being quiet.

Once inside, the room was surprisingly spacious, with a kitchen area and fridge. My window looked out over the bay, and the room was super clean. The bed was very comfortable, and the rate was reasonable. The entrance is pretty unassuming, but I'd happily stay here again.

My impression of the hotel was negative. The central location, easy self check-in, pleasant views of the square and water, and comfortable bed were positives, but the problems outweighed them. The most serious concern was safety. Both elevators apparently hadn't been serviced in seven years, and their inspection certificates expired in 2020. When I asked management, they said inspections were only required every five years. That's not true: Portuguese law requires them every two years for hotels. Even on their stated five-year schedule, the elevators were overdue. I found the response misleading and the lack of attention to such a critical safety issue dishonest and dangerous. I'd strongly advise guests to avoid using the elevators. There were other maintenance problems too: very slow WiFi, a dirty bathroom fan, a sewage smell from the shower, a clogged sink, and a toilet flush that didn't work properly. The fridge was loud enough at night that earplugs were necessary. During our stay, a large concert in the square outside sent music and vibrations through the room until midnight. We weren't warned until only a few days beforehand. Had we known, we wouldn't have booked here. It may look appealing from outside, but the bathroom upkeep, expired elevator certifications and management's response mean I can't recommend it.
