That bed was shockingly uncomfortable. The mattress was the hardest I've ever slept on, and we tossed and turned all night with sore hips. The wifi barely worked at any time, and the hot water was unreliable too. Both shower drains stayed clogged for our whole visit. We were also welcomed to the room by a pair of bright red panties that weren't ours. There were extra charges all over the apartment that hadn't been listed in the booking or mentioned aloud, despite a 40-minute conversation with the host when we arrived. Using the stove cost 25 Euros, and it was only allowed for breakfast. Laundry was 7 Euros a load, and we had to pay 28 Euros in cash for "city tax," on top of the booking total. The host took us into his office on arrival and spent ages talking negatively about America and "our government." That may not be unjust, but we'd rather have discussed the hidden fees. There was no proper walkthrough or signage explaining how to use things. I've never stayed somewhere with less information. The host told two young girls the neighborhood was totally safe. Every other local we spoke to, including Uber drivers, said we were in the worst part of town and it was very unsafe. Maybe that reflects xenophobia among locals, but Lisbon as a whole didn't feel particularly safe to us. As young women traveling by ourselves, we would have valued an honest account.
