Hotel Gat Rossio

The breakfast was quite good, and I liked that the breakfast area opens onto a little outdoor lounge. It starts at 7:30, though, which may not work for an early start. Staff happily kept my bag when I arrived before check-in, and I’m sure they’d have found extra towels or blankets if I’d asked. I had one towel and one washcloth, and no spare blanket in the room. My single room was small even by European standards, but workable for one person. The sink sits beside the bed, separate from the toilet and shower, so electronics can get splashed. There’s an outlet by the bed, but the counter is too small for comfortable laptop use, and there’s no table or chair. The shower stall is also very tight. I accidentally shut the water off a few times, and the curtain sometimes opened or got pulled inward. A door or weighted curtain might help. The bathroom door swings into the room and interferes with the entry door, so a pocket door or curtain could make more sense. The room has a cool look, but some features aren’t very practical. The built-in hangers make it hard to hang trousers.

The location was great, and breakfast had a good range of choices. My room was clean, but so tiny there wasn’t even space to open my luggage properly, and there was no chair. The basic setup showed in the lack of extra towels, kettle, tea, coffee, or fridge. There was just one towel for face and hands, and the sink was right by the bed. At check-in, staff missed that breakfast was already included in my reservation. I checked again after returning to my room, or they would have charged me twice. For what’s provided, I felt it was a bit overpriced.

The staff were a real bright spot. Anna, Michaela and Ruan were kind, cheerful and helpful, and the infused water at check-in was lovely after the 40-minute trip from the airport. It’s a tucked-away little hotel in an older building near the center of things. My room was clean and perfectly adequate, though as an American I found it on the small side. It was only a quick one-night stay, but I’ll recommend it to people visiting Lisbon. Obrigado!!!

The location puts you near the tourist sights, and compared with other hotels the price was lower, though this isn’t as cheap as some other cities. Breakfast had fair options, and the staff were great. Check-in was easy, and the receptionist was so nice. I arrived early and she held my bag so I could go explore. The room was clean, modern-looking and felt safe. The buttons by the bed were labelled, so it was clear what each one turned on or off. It was quiet except on the evening I checked in, when I heard what sounded like teenagers running around and squealing. I didn’t hear it again. No regrets.
