Avoid this place. We booked a “Superior Double Room,” but it was extremely small, and the bed left the door barely able to open. The window in the room was fake and couldn’t be opened. To open the bathroom window, you had to go into the room. It was very hot and humid, and they only provided a fan. Everything smelled like a sewer, which was disgusting and unsanitary. Staff were nice but couldn’t fix anything. They knew about the smell and were doing nothing to address it. The room also had an extra door to the emergency stairs, blocked by a piece of wood, and the fire extinguisher was in the middle of the corridor. It was noisy, too. We had to cancel and book somewhere else ourselves, paying much more because it was a last-minute booking.

A small, unpretentious guesthouse with neat, modern rooms, a great shower, working air conditioning, and a comfortable bed. The floor was a little dusty when I arrived because the window had been left open, but that was taken care of the next morning. I appreciated having a minibar and tea and coffee in the room. I was in room 5, a family room, so there was extra space and a partial city view. Good value and a nice stay, in a fantastic spot just off the Avenida Liberade, beside the Gloria Funicular and Rossio subway.

Breakfast wasn’t included, which felt like poor value for what I paid. There were codes for this and codes for that, but I’d still stay here again. Just my opinion.

I felt unsafe as soon as I saw the dirty, gloomy street, with drunk people sitting in doorways. There’s no lift, and the owner was rude. I’d prepaid, but chose another hotel and couldn’t get a refund. I was just glad I hadn’t stayed here. DO NOT BOOK.
