Golden Tram 242 Lisbonne Hostel

The other staff were amazing, and the male receptionist did his job, but I want to warn people coming from South America about his attitude. When I told him men had harassed me in Lisbon, he said Portuguese men don’t do that and blamed Brazilian and other South American immigrants. Functionally, this hostel is better than others I’ve stayed in.

The toilets were as bad as the reviews say and could use a lot of work, though you can shower if you bring your own toiletries. You get what you pay for, so it’s worth it if you’re young and only need somewhere to sleep. The location couldn’t be better, close to everything, Pink Street and all the trams. The receptionist was great and gave honest service, a 5/5 for that.

The corridors all smelled of urine, the showers were mostly out of order, and the rooms were very warm with no air conditioning. It took at least 45 minutes for someone to check us in. The “breakfast” was left out in the heat all day. It really seemed like nobody cared about the place. Definitely avoid.

Golden Tram hostel is centrally located, near the seaside and shopping street, which is one good thing. But it’s extremely dirty and doesn’t respect human dignity. The bathrooms were the dirtiest I’ve ever seen: the men’s WC smelled like pee, the showers had no privacy, and the floors were filthy, covered with hair and stains. The sinks had sketchy marks and clearly hadn’t been cleaned in ages. There was a stuffy, moldy smell everywhere. I asked for soap in the toilets and the receptionist said the boss no longer wanted to provide any. It sounded like a bad joke. My room locker couldn’t be secured, either because the handle was broken or because random locked pads were already blocking me from using mine. Again, reception couldn’t help. Only go if you have NO OTHER CHOICE.
