Hotel Convento do Salvador

We had the two-story room, with a pullout couch downstairs and a larger regular bed upstairs. There are board games, couches, and tables in the reception area. The location was convenient, and breakfast was good. Great hotel!

My first solo trip to Europe started in Hotel Convento, in the Alfama district of Lisboa, and I'm so glad I found it. The staff were kind and helpful, giving me maps and explaining how to get where I needed to go. The room was great, with a lovely view, and the location was ideal. Alfama is old, traditional, and full of history, and I enjoyed walking around day and night without ever feeling unsafe. It was peaceful and quiet at night, even with the balcony door open. The price was great value, and breakfast was delicious too, so I'd recommend adding it. Thank you for making my first stay in Europe so memorable. Highly recommend!

I've stayed here three times over the past few years and am surprised to see the bad reviews. The staff are friendly, breakfast is good, and the outdoor area is peaceful and relaxing. Rooms are clean and simple. People complain about the cobbled street outside, but this is Alfama's historic area, so the road isn't tarmac. It can be a little hard to find, which comes with choosing a small boutique place in Lisbon's old town. If you want a large, soulless branded hotel, this isn't the spot. Prices have barely gone up over the years, and I'll keep booking here.

I wouldn't recommend this place or stay again. The rooms were small, and the beds were horribly uncomfortable, with a rock-hard mattress and pillow. Along with the terrible smell and all the noise from inside and outside, I could only sleep a few hours a night. The amenities were subpar. Breakfast was the only food the hotel offered, and the outdoor patio was small and underwhelming. The so-called pool was just a hole in the concrete filled with dirty water. The location near restaurants, shops, and nightlife was its saving grace, but cars can't reach the front entrance from the main street because the passage is too narrow. You have to carry all your luggage down a cobblestone hill. At least the rooms were reasonably priced, because you get what you pay for.
