Hotel LX Rossio

The staff were friendly and happy to answer questions or offer recommendations, and the rooms were comfortable and clean, with what we needed for a short city break. Hotel L.X. Rossio is right in central Lisbon, so restaurants, shops, and the main sights were easy to reach. I had a very pleasant stay and found it a convenient, comfortable choice.

For a decent price, this is a good option if you want to stay centrally. The room was basic but pretty clean, with a good shower, air con, and a handy mini fridge. Our TV didn’t work, though, and the hotel lost power one day while construction was going on.

For the price and location, I’m giving it five stars. It’s listed as a one-star hotel, but I found it more like a three-star place: clean, new, and better than I expected. There’s no free water in the room. Still, compared with the risk of paying a premium for a disappointing four-star hotel, booking this place felt like a safer bet for the money. The one-star rating shouldn’t put you off.

I was disappointed, especially because the online photos didn’t match the dark, dingy room I got on the third floor. The lower floors looked like they might have been refurbished, so maybe I just got unlucky. The toilet cubicle door wouldn’t close, though that was less of an issue since I was travelling alone. The hotel arranged a 4am airport transfer for me at a flat $20eu, paid in cash to the driver. It’s right in the centre, in a pedestrian-only area, so there’s a short walk to reach it. If you’re on a budget, you could try it, but I’d choose somewhere else if you can afford to.
