Les Deux Mariettes Apartments & Suites

The only thing I missed was coffee for the morning. As someone who loves coffee and can’t start the day without a proper cup, I was surprised there wasn’t any for guests, just a machine. When I travel, I’ve always had at least one capsule per guest per day. Otherwise everything was perfect. The place was clean, nicely furnished, and in a quiet, good location. The staff were really helpful and made us feel we could count on them if anything came up. I felt safe even at night, and the area is lovely and inviting. It’s near plenty of shops, restaurants, supermarkets, parks and museums, with a bus stop right outside. Rato metro station is a 5-15 minute walk, so getting here from the airport is easy. You’re next to the tourist and party areas, but not right in the middle of them, and you can reach things easily on foot or by public transport. I was there alone for a week in January, on my first trip abroad by myself. Feeling safe and having a cozy, quiet place to retreat to mattered most, and Les Deux Mariettes worked really well for that. It was low season and the room was nearly 50% off, so I could stay somewhere fancier than I’d usually afford, without it feeling stuffy. The room was exactly as advertised. The bed was very comfortable, and it had pretty much everything: washer and dryer, dishwasher, oven, microwave, coffee machine, kettle, fridge, hairdryer, cooking gear, TV, towels and toiletries. Mine faced away from the street and looked onto a nice building and a parking area. The sunrises were amazing, which made up for that view. There was plenty to see around the city anyway, and I never heard noise from other rooms. Entry to the building and my room each required a code, which felt secure. Someone was at the counter around 80% of the time during the day, staff could also be reached on WhatsApp, and there was always a security guard in the evening and overnight. The staff were kind and not intrusive, but available if needed. Shoutout to David, Helena and Vladimir :-) Highly recommend!

The apartment’s location was good, and it was spacious, but our family was disappointed with the bathroom. We stayed four nights, October 16-20, in apartment 2K on the second floor, a two-bedroom place with a balcony. The shower cubicle was so cramped that we couldn’t shower properly, and there was mold in the shower area that smelled. It needs a deep clean. We later realized the bathroom was designed for guests with disabilities, so I don’t understand why this apartment was assigned to us. We’d already paid in full, which meant we couldn’t make other arrangements. Check-in had a couple of problems. The air conditioning wasn’t working, and it took a while to fix because only the security guard was on site. We asked for bathroom floor towels and were told to wash them ourselves in the washing machine. No towels were replaced and no trash was collected during our stay.

The apartments are nicely equipped with Bosch appliances, though we hardly used the kitchen with so many good restaurants nearby. There are lots of restaurants around, and the location across from the parliament building felt safe and secure. Check-in was smooth, and we got into the apartment right away. One morning the hot water gave us trouble, but it was fixed quickly and didn’t happen again. The hosts are easy to reach on WhatsApp.
