Good value for the price. The included breakfast was okay, and the place has old-school charm. My room was clean, the mattress brand new, and I slept well.

The room for three was a suitable size for our short stay, and there was a safe in it. The showerhead can’t be removed, though they do provide shower caps. Staff were wonderful throughout. They let us leave our bags before check-in and again after checkout because our flight was late. Breakfast was simple but enough, with bread, small spreads and a range of fresh fruit. Plenty of bus services are nearby, and the location is great.

The only real plus is the location. The room was really old, and parking was a problem because the lot didn’t have enough spaces. The receptionist didn’t even know the price or hours for public parking. Scam!

During the peak summer heat, the air conditioning wasn’t working anywhere in the hotel, including my room. When I politely asked for a refund because of that, staff responded aggressively and rudely: “Call the police, call Booking.com, do whatever worst you can do.” There was no apology, responsibility or attempt to help. This was one of my worst hotel experiences. It felt hostile toward guests, and I’d tell anyone who values comfort, health and basic respect to avoid National Hotel in Lisbon.
