New Aljubarrota Guesthouse

The location is wonderful, right in the heart of the city, and the rooms are comfortable and clean. The service is great, and the workers are accommodating. I've stayed here with my husband since my first visit during Covid-19. The other guests have been friendly, welcoming, and pleasant. In summer, you can hear live music from the balcony in the evenings, like a free concert. Be ready for a lot of stairs: the rooms are at the top of the building, around four or five flights up, so it may not suit people with limited mobility. There's no air conditioning, so make sure the fan works. The workers will help you with that. The bathroom is clean, but if you don't have a private one, I'd suggest showering in the shared bathroom since room service cleans it every morning.

The guest house is very quiet, and the location is hard to beat. Bathrooms and shared spaces are cleaned daily. The kitchen has a microwave, but no way to cook. I had to pay €5 to use towels, which felt ridiculous. Pillows were old and lumpy, and there was nowhere to leave luggage after checkout. The closest option was a train station locker for €6.50. Street noise continued until around midnight, then deliveries started again around 4 or 5 a.m. There was no fan or air conditioning, so I had to sleep with the window open, which didn't help with the noise. Be warned, the property is on the fourth floor and has no elevator. That's a lot of stairs.

The hostel is right in the city center, so I could pop back often to leave shopping or pick up a jacket. The service was kind, the price was good, and the shared kitchen had a fridge. I stayed a couple of days in a small single room with a shared bathroom, but having a sink in my room made it convenient. It was cleaned daily, and toiletries were provided free. Just be prepared to climb stairs with your bags, as the hostel is on the fourth floor and has no elevator. I had a big suitcase, so that was the only downside for me.

The location is good, but there are more than five flights of stairs to climb. I wouldn't recommend it to older people carrying luggage. Booking.com should clearly state that it's on the fifth floor.
