Royal Prince Hostel

Ana and the team really make the place. They do more than host you, they know their city and region and want you to enjoy what’s there. Their help was better than what I’ve had from a $500-a-night hotel concierge. The shared bathrooms are kept cleaner than any I’ve seen. Both the private and shared rooms are comfortable, with medium-firm foam mattresses and mini-splits to keep them cool. I highly recommend the hostel and its team.

We had a 6:30 a.m. checkout, but Filipa made sure Marto had all the breakfast items ready for us the night before. The staff, Filipa, Roxana and Marto, were friendly, helpful, and full of information, and they worked long hours to keep guests comfortable. The bathrooms were very well equipped and spotless. My bunk didn’t feel as sturdy as I expected, though the room overall made up for it. The service and arrangements were impeccable. The main drawback is the walk, about 2 km on steep roads. Still, it’s a 5/5 place to stay. The hostel suggested a Sintra, Caba De Roca, Cascais and Belem tour with Frederico from RAD (Rent a driver). It was a private tour and, for 3-4 people, cost less than group tours. Even for fewer people, Frederico is a cheerful, great guide at budget prices. They also pointed us to a free walking tour. We went with the yellow group instead of the red one, but the hostel’s budget recommendations were great. Nanarella, with the best ice cream in Lisbon, is 300 m away, and a vegetarian Portuguese restaurant is right opposite the hostel. Frederico gave us both tips. Ana, the owner, is so welcoming and sweet, she makes you feel right at home. This is the cleanest and most organized hostel I’ve ever seen.

Thanks to the Royal Prince Hostel team for replying so quickly and letting me cancel for free. I ended up in hospital and couldn’t cancel the booking in time, but they kindly waived the 18 Euro fee. I’d be glad to stay here another time!
