Samps Hostel

The kindest person I dealt with was the guy at reception. I left my bag there when I went out, and seeing other people do the same made me feel a little more at ease. I still wasn't comfortable leaving my things in the room, though, and after a late night out I even kept my shoes off the floor. I'd just bought them for €130 😅. I picked Samps Hostel because it was cheap and within walking distance of the city center. I don't mind walking 2-3 km, so I wasn't expecting anything fancy. The room was full of guys, as you'd expect at a budget hostel, and some seemed to be staying long-term from the way they had things set up. I was surprised to see a couple of women there too, including two really kind women from Brazil. The kitchen was okayish. It works if you're traveling light, staying a short time, and mostly out partying. For a relaxed or comfortable stay, it wasn't ideal for me.

For guests arriving in town, being central matters. I don't understand how a historic building can be treated this way: there was mold growing in the room. I booked five days but left after two nights. Disgusting. Zero stars would be best.

It was my first hostel stay, and I didn't enjoy it. The place had unpleasant smells throughout, and the rooms weren't very clean. I did feel safe, though, since I was on a women-only floor.

My room was clean, comfortable, and well kept, and the service made a real difference. The staff were genuinely friendly and went out of their way to help. Samps Hostel is one of the best budget places I've stayed. If you're after affordable accommodation without giving up good service or quality, I highly recommend it.
