Shiado Hostel

Buyer beware. My reservation was cancelled four hours before check-in, even though I’d booked a month ahead. I was on a train into Lisbon when I got the email saying, “Booking disruption: GS Chiado Boutique Studios & Suites won't be able to accommodate you.”

I won't be coming back, and I'd tell anyone visiting Lisbon to look elsewhere. There’s no front desk, which wasn’t an issue for me, but room help is only available during limited hours. My room’s air unit was set to heat even though it was over 20 degrees outside. I asked staff to switch it to cool, since guests can’t change the central system, and they refused, telling me to turn it off instead. I was deeply dissatisfied.

The staff were warm and helpful, though they weren't around all the time. Check-in was effortless: everything was ready, with clear instructions. I really enjoyed my stay and would book again. The room and location were excellent.

The setup, location, and room were all lovely, and it was clean and nicely decorated. Still, I can't rate it higher because the building seems to have almost no sound insulation. We could make out every word from people talking in the next room, even though they were just speaking normally, not shouting or drunk. I don't know what Portugal's building rules are, but this was a huge disappointment. Could be ideal if you're hard of hearing. 😩
