Star Hostel

The rooms are clean and quiet, but the place seems to expect you to sleep from 9pm until 9am. I had an early bus, so I handed in my key the day before to get my deposit back. When I returned at 9:30pm with food I'd bought, I found the kitchen closed, even though I'd left food and water in the fridge. Nobody came to let me into the rooms, and I was stuck outside for 20 minutes until another guest opened the door. I ended up without dinner and had to drink water from the toilet area. If you can sleep those full 12 hours, I guess it would be fine.

The only plus for me was that it was fairly cheap. The welcome from the staff was very informal and unprofessional, and the service was lacking across the board. The bathrooms smelled bad and weren't cleaned every day. There are only three bathrooms for all the guests, which just isn't enough. There was no toilet paper or shower gel either. The location wasn't good, and I definitely wouldn't recommend this hostel. If you like the smell of bacalhau, though, this might be your place.

The price makes it a good deal, despite there being just two small bathrooms for the whole hostel. Beds were clean and the staff friendly. The bedrooms on the lower floor were quieter than the ones on the reception floor. It's about a 40-minute walk to the center.

Absolutely gross, I can't recommend it. The bathroom stank so badly I could hardly stay in there, and there was hair in the shower, like it hadn't been cleaned for ages. The room was tiny too, with just one little 20cm x 20cm window.
