The view is beautiful. That’s about all I liked. The rooms were gross, the staff service was hit-or-miss, and the neighborhood felt rough. The climb through an unsavory area to get there wasn’t great either. It has a hostel feel, and even expecting budget accommodation, I found it disappointing. You’re basically paying for the view; everything else felt very low effort.

The terrace view and included breakfast were the good parts. My room’s wifi didn’t work, and they couldn’t fix it, which was incredibly frustrating. The showers and bathrooms were pretty terrible too. Be ready for a steep walk up a huge hill and lots of stairs once you arrive. I don’t mind hiking or stairs, but this place isn’t for everyone.

We had a 19-hour layover between Barcelona and NYC and this worked well for an overnight stay. The hostel is beside the historic castle, and staying there made me feel connected to the area’s history. Getting there from the airport by metro and then on foot involved huge stairs and steep streets, followed by another spiral staircase inside. It really feels like a royal keep. Our room was cozy, the terrace view was breathtaking, and we had continental breakfast in the morning. We saw the castle and got something to eat before going back to the airport.

The Keep is run by a nice, responsive family, and the quirky older neighbourhood is central. The simple terraces are lovely and comfortable, with one of the city’s best views. My room was clean and comfortable, with its own sink and a nice breeze, but there was only one outlet, so be prepared. Breakfast is included, though I’d opt for one of the nearby cafes instead.

The Keep was a decent little old place to sleep when we stayed in February 2018. It was clean, the staff were very kind, and breakfast was fine. The hotel has a fantastic city view, but you have to climb 227 steps to reach it. It could use some renovation. See if you can find the elevator up there!
