The neighborhood is handy, with cafes and an Auchan supermarket within walking distance, and iconic tram 28 passes right outside. It's a typical hostel in a touristy part of Lisbon, with very basic facilities. Be prepared to climb a lot of stairs to get there.

We told the staff member on duty and the manager as soon as we found the problem. The manager agreed the situation was unacceptable and promised a refund, but it still hasn't arrived. Our room at The LX Hill Hostel smelled strongly of damp, and cockroaches were present throughout. That was deeply unpleasant and raised serious hygiene concerns. The stay fell far short of what we'd reasonably expect from guest accommodation and left a very negative mark on our time in Lisbon.

We eventually got our money back months later through a bank chargeback. Our August 2025 stay was a nightmare: we found several cockroaches in the room at check-in, and with my partner pregnant, we couldn't stay in those conditions. The owner first said on WhatsApp that we'd get a full refund if we left, but after we checked out as agreed, he stopped replying. He also wouldn't provide a fiscal invoice, even after Booking.com assistance contacted him, which kept us from filing an official complaint with the authorities. Management then reported us to Booking.com as a "No-Show" even though we'd checked in. It seemed intended to stop us leaving a verified review and to resell the infested room right away. This place is run dishonestly and doesn't meet basic sanitary standards. Don't waste your money ;)

Room 4, on the ground floor, was the problem for me, though I might return if assigned a different room. It's a hostel, and the facilities match the photos; in some ways, it was better than I expected. The reception staff are attentive. They don't speak Spanish or Portuguese, but basic English is enough to communicate. Breakfast can be quite complete if you put it together: coffee, tea, yogurt, granola, juice, bread, cheese, ham, jam, cream cakes, and fruit. The bathroom was tiny, especially the shower. I'm 1.75m tall and weigh 96kg, and anyone larger will have trouble showering. The pipes smelled of sewage, with the odor getting stronger during a shower. On my last morning, I found a large cockroach in the room and had to kill it.
