The living room, dining room, and guest accommodation are beautiful, and the views over the water and city are fabulous. It’s centrally located, close to garden walks and beautiful churches. Each time I visit Lisbon, I stay at the House because it feels like a second home now. Mr Francisco is welcoming, personable, and accommodating. I highly recommend it.

There’s a clear idea behind this special, very welcoming place. You get your own bedroom and bathroom, plus lots of shared space to spend time with the other guests. The living room is great, and the roof terrace with its conservatory is unique and marvelous. I really appreciate that there are no TVs in the rooms. The technical setup is good, though, with fast, stable WiFi, so I also work remotely here. The host is around a lot and keen to help. Breakfast is fine, and the nearby tram, the real old one, is handy for setting off into the city.

The rooftop view was nice, but the same empty Pringles can and other trash stayed there the whole time, so it didn’t seem like anyone was making an effort to tidy up. We were in “the boys room,” which doesn’t even have a private bathroom in the suite. The rooms barely block any sound, either, and you can hear everything outside. The self service bar was a rip-off, charging 3 euros for two small bottles of water, and the free breakfast was garbage.

Our friends made a mistake with the original booking, so sadly we never got to stay at TheHouse. Francisco was very understanding about the cancellation and quick to respond. Thanks, Francisco. I hope we can come back when our friends get the booking right.

The place feels more like a cozy flat than an impersonal hotel, and the staff are really nice. Breakfast has a good mix of local and non-local choices. The view over Lisbon is the best I’ve seen, and believe me, I lived there for 25 years and have seen a lot.
