This Is Lisbon Hostel

The terrace was amazing, and I enjoyed every bit of the breakfast. The staff were very friendly, and the front desk is open 24 hours. Great location, too. The rooms with private bathrooms were great, but the shared bathrooms weren’t clean and had a broken urinal. From what I heard, the women’s restrooms were the same. That seemed to be down to messy guests rather than staff not cleaning.

The best part of my seven nights in Lisbon was having a bed in a room that opened straight onto the terrace and rooftop. The hostel was clean, well cared for and friendly, with staff who were incredibly kind, welcoming and always ready to help. I’d definitely recommend staying here if you want a warm, pleasant atmosphere while discovering Lisbon.

I felt comfortable for my whole stay, and the terrace gives you a view of the city. The rooms and washrooms were clean, too. Whenever we needed something, there was a kind, helpful person at reception. I’d definitely come back.

I’m conflicted about writing this because the staff and owner treated us so well, but I’d want to know if a place had recently had bed bugs. We booked the Tejo twin room and, before using it, I spotted a bed bug on a pillow. They moved us to the Saudade double room, where we had a great couple of nights, and we saw the Tejo room being treated the next day. When the Saudade room was no longer available, we switched to the Pessoa twin room. I was bitten 10 times overnight under the sheets. When I told them, the staff and owner were genuinely fantastic and refunded that night before I even asked. I didn’t get treatment this ethical from a Lisbon hotel that cost 2X as much. It’s a great hostel with an amazing view, lovely staff and, thankfully, an ethical owner. Unfortunately, we found bed bugs in 2 of the 3 private rooms we stayed in, and other travellers should be able to make an informed choice.
