VIP Inn Berna Hotel

The room was decent, clean, and cleaned daily, and the bed was comfortable. The hotel’s central location worked well. My only real issue was getting coffee before an early start. Breakfast doesn’t open until 7am, which is too late if you need to leave early. Reception couldn’t help with a kettle and suggested asking the breakfast counter in the morning or trying the bar. At 5am both were closed, so there was no coffee or hot water available. They could put a decent coffee machine at reception, with milk, sugar, and tea bags as a complimentary option. Even a paid setup like at the airport would be useful. It’d be good to have some option while everything else is shut.

The reception guys and the cleaning ladies were super nice. The location’s great too, with restaurants, a train station, laundries, and gyms nearby, and it’s 15 minutes from the airport. My room was clean and the bed was really comfortable, so I slept well. The only thing I noticed was that the sink didn’t drain properly. Really awesome.

DO NOT STAY HERE, BED BUGS! Before our flight on Saturday, we stayed here and I woke up at 3:30 AM covered in bites. We turned on the light and saw a huge bed bug crawling on the bed, then found several more in the sheets. I had a severe allergic reaction, with my whole body and one eye swollen. We showed reception photos of the bugs and bites, but nobody went to check the room or verify what happened. Danilo, who said he was new, called his supervisor Paulo and told us maybe there’d be a refund on Monday. We left without an apology, concern, or resolution. I had to take time off work to go to the hospital. Avoid this hotel at all costs.

The breakfast room was spotless, and there was plenty of good-quality food. The location was good too. The hotel feels somewhat dated, though some renovation work is happening. My bedroom was extremely small, with only about eight inches between the bed’s foot and the unit against the wall. If you plan to use the underground car park, be careful: the entrance is very narrow and hard to get through. I had a small SUV, and anything larger would be difficult to manoeuvre into the garage.
