The location was great, and the breakfast was okay. Our room had a smell and the AC didn’t work. At least we got the stay for free after our flight was cancelled.

Breakfast was the same Swedish-style spread each day, and it got cramped in the dining area at busy times. I spent three nights here. The hotel feels a bit dated and could use renovation.

Being right by the ferry was the best part, with easy day trips to Faial and S.Jorge. The rest left me disappointed. The property had cracks and moldy patches throughout, and the rooms and general feel seemed more like a 3-star place than a 4-star one. If you have food allergies or dietary restrictions, I’d avoid it. The hotel no longer makes breakfast accommodations, so there are no gluten-free or lactose-free choices. When we asked, management told us, “you pay like everyone else, you get what everyone else gets”. I didn’t enjoy my stay and wouldn’t recommend it. Otherwise, it’s a pass.

The staff weren’t rude, but they often seemed indifferent and could have paid more attention to customer service. My room was clean and comfortable, as I’d expect from this category of hotel. The central spot in Madalena, right across from the port, made it easy to get around, and breakfast had a good range of choices. I had a good stay overall.
