Solar Da Serra Guesthouse

The rooms are spacious and nicely warm, and we had all the comfort and cleanliness we needed. Breakfast was very good, with fresh juice, croissants, cheeses, jams and lovely crusty bread. The owners are friendly and courteous, and the host gave us a very warm welcome.

The valley view from the well-equipped swimming pool is lovely. The place is secluded, but the owner has done a beautiful renovation of the main house where he lives, along with the outbuildings: one apartment behind the house, another connected to it, and a third just a few meters away. Inside, everything has a modern style. The owners are helpful and attentive. Breakfast costs an extra €8 if it isn’t part of your booking, and you can also buy wine and pizzas if you get hungry. At about €70 per apartment for up to four people, it’s very good value.

The owners are nice, but I wouldn’t recommend this place if you want complete privacy. The listing said we’d have the house to ourselves, yet the owners were living there too, and we could only use the living room in the main house. Then relatives we hadn’t been told about showed up halfway through our stay. That wasn’t the privacy we’d been promised.

The room with its own bathroom was roomy and comfortable, and the house and grounds are very well cared for. It’s well located for exploring Serra da Estrela. Our hosts were attentive and friendly, and breakfast was excellent, with plenty of variety and specialties made by Dona Paula.
