My wife and I spent three days here with five friends, and we had an amazing time. The hosts were extremely nice and even arranged authentic Portuguese food for dinner, ready when we arrived. The house can comfortably fit 14 people, with a big family room, a large dining table and an indoor spa with a steam room and sauna. Outside, there’s an immaculate pool, a cool pool deck, an outdoor bar and plenty of places to sit or lounge. The views of the Duoro River are awesome, and being right on the river meant cruise ships, boats and jet skis passed several times an hour, which we enjoyed. The one issue was finding the place: the hosts gave us GPS coordinates, but Google Maps took us to the wrong side of the river. We had to backtrack 30 minutes each way, and with our late flight we were searching for it around 11 PM. Otherwise, we had an amazing stay.

The view over the Douro River from this very modern villa was phenomenal, but we all agreed it wasn’t a good choice for our vacation. The house was hard to locate: its address didn’t register on either of our two GPS devices or on Google Maps. We called the owner twice for help, and on another occasion spent an hour searching after dark. The narrow roads down to the house were so steep they nearly gave us heart attacks. We ended up renting an automatic car because driving our manual one wasn’t tenable. The villa is extremely isolated. We felt like hostages there and only went out twice in a week, to visit Porto, shop for groceries and eat at a restaurant half an hour away. Porto is 58-60 kilometers from the house, and it’s not somewhere you can head out for dinner and drinks and be back three hours later. Two of our five even considered leaving for a place in the city. There were no instructions for the appliances, lights, TVs or grill. We did get to use some organic produce from the garden. I think the owner and booking agent should have been clearer about the location and logistical challenges. We should have researched more, because we couldn’t believe how far it was from Porto. Sorry this is so long, but I wish I’d read a review like it before booking.

We had an incredible time in the Douro. The house is wonderful, with a top-notch spa that includes a pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and even a gym. Everything was well equipped and spotless, and the views over the Douro are stunning. It’s a peaceful, comfortable place to relax and enjoy every moment. I highly recommend it!

A real paradise in Portugal! The incredible view of the Douro River takes your breath away, and it’s perfect for a family holiday, with loads to do, including the jacuzzi, sauna and pool. Highly recommend.
