Caruma Surf Hostel & Suites

A good value stop in a great location for anyone walking the Camino to Santiago. The staff were friendly, the bed was clean, and the hot shower was just right. The kitchen had everything I needed. Towels cost 2 euros.

I spent 6 days and 7 nights here while learning to surf, and the beach is really close. The rooms were spacious and clean, with lockers and keys, while the shared areas felt cosy and welcoming. Luis, the owner, was a fantastic host and great to talk with. He and his dog Alfredo were both so friendly. The hostel has a relaxed feel and loads of character. It reflects Luis well, genuine and warm, with a big heart. I'd recommend Caruma Surf Hostel to anyone, and I'd love to come back.

The surf safaris they put on almost every day were the highlight for me. The staff made me feel at home, and the whole place has an amazing atmosphere shaped by the people who stay there. It's one of the best hostels I've visited. Each time I return, it feels like coming home.

I didn't end up staying after a really bad arrival. There was a payment problem, and the staff member responded with hostility. He told me to wait an hour to see if another guest, who had booked more nights, showed up since only one bed was free. He then pressured me to leave a positive review in return for the bed. When I wouldn't, he became openly disrespectful. This was the most unprofessional hostel experience I've had in Europe. The place felt unfriendly, with no surf or community atmosphere, and even basic hospitality was missing at the front desk. I strongly advise against booking, especially for women travelling alone.
