Quinta de Gestacos

The Quinta sits high above the area, with lovely views of the hills and the bridges over the river and lake Caldo. The grounds have lots of flowers, and we heard there are more than 75 fruit trees. The new owners are updating the guest rooms and tidying up outside. When I visited it was hot, so the pool was a welcome way to cool off after days exploring Geres-Peneda park and the nearby villages. The location is excellent, about 2 km from Geres town and the same distance from beautiful lake beaches in the other direction. The property is at the base of the main road, N308-1, which makes it easy to reach, and the terraced landscaping hides the road from view. The driveway was confusing the first time. Coming from Braga, turn right onto the road toward Ermida village, then about 100 meters up, take the sharp left at the first driveway. On the way to the waterfalls, stop at the restaurant in Ermida. There's a bar and a small store for picnic supplies, you can refill water at the fountain, and make a dinner reservation for the way back. The food was amazing, the best meal I had in the area, cooked by the 87-year-old grandmother of the family that runs the complex. Amazing property and people!

The hosts made sure we had everything we needed and went above and beyond. What an amazing place to stay! I'd recommend it to anyone visiting Portugal and will definitely book again. Thanks, BC and Lisa, for everything!

We stayed for just one night after the season, and it seemed okay. The rooms were clean and the fireplaces worked. There was nobody home. Hard to say more, but I think it's a nice place.

We loved exploring and hiking around this beautiful place, surrounded by great scenery. It's about 1.5 hours from Porto.
