The owners were very friendly, and the large digital TV had plenty of channels. The house itself is lovely and sits in a peaceful spot for resting and exploring nature, with a pool that I didn't use at this time of year. The heating in the bedrooms was switched off, though, so the room felt much too cold. There's a big living room with a wood-burning stove, but it wasn't enough to warm the whole place.

The location is gorgeous, but that's about the only good thing I can say about the accommodation. The heating didn't work unless the fireplace was going, and when we complained that it was cold, we were told to put more wood on. If the owners knew the house would be full, they should have made sure it was warm and that the bedroom radiators were hot. There wasn't even a glass in the bathroom for a drink of water, and despite all the modern touches, the bed had no top sheet, which is still useful and cozy. We visit Gerês often, and this was by far the least welcoming place we've stayed. With so many things missing, it wasn't worth the price. It's disappointing for a hotel to have no TV in the bedroom, either.

The views over the Cávado reservoir and the Gerês and Cabreira mountains are stunning. Casa Sebastiao da barca feels surrounded by nature and is far from the bustle of the city, which makes it a great spot for a quiet holiday. The service was excellent, and we had an unforgettable stay. I recommend it 100%.

We were so happy there that we'd love to keep coming back. The house is exceptional, with a warm, family welcome. Forget commercial Gerês, this is somewhere special. A special thanks to D. Elisabete and Sr. Domingos. We'll be back!
