The owner gave us such a warm welcome, and the place was charming, spotless, and very comfortable. It’s in a perfect spot in beautiful Peniche. Highly recommended!

The camera coverage was what bothered me most. In shared areas of the hostels we’ve stayed in, cameras are usually unusual, and here I felt watched and controlled even while trying to follow all the rules. I took photos of the cameras during our stay because I could relate to the critical reviews saying, “Fake, this name was never here.” The price was fair, but there were extra charges everywhere. The kitchen had no utensils and felt more like a souvenir shop. The washing machine and dryer cost about the same as the laundromat across the street, and a sign threatened a fine for washing clothes in the bathroom if you were caught. That didn’t feel very hospitable.

We didn’t really feel welcome. On checkout day, the owner knocked at 11:01 to tell us we had to leave, and the house is covered in notices about what you can’t do. One says washing clothes in the bathroom will cost you 10€ 🤷🏼‍♂️ The stay itself was OK, but the host’s attitude got on my nerves. There’s also a 5€ late check-in fee after 9 pm, which seems odd since the owner lives in the same apartment.

Even washing clothes by hand in the sink can get you a 10€ fine. Cooking is allowed, but you have to pay for oil and even salt unless you bought it yourself. Those are pretty basic kitchen items, yet they come at huge prices. There’s a webcam in the kitchen, so you’re being watched. Not exactly a place that feels like home.
